Form student one of those praised for social sustainability project

"The future is knocking."

Skärholmen interior is a unique production of Design Lab S in collaboration with children from the area and Sweden's leading design and interior photographers. The magazine highlights the designers of the future and what home and design can be today. 

"There is a lot of talk about sustainability in the exhibition context – but then it is usually about materials and recycling. Social sustainability is not as high on the agenda. With the magazine Skärholmen Interiör, Design Lab S in Skärholmen turns its eyes in another direction – the editorial team, consisting of children aged 9 to 13, has, in collaboration with writers and photographers, created an interior design magazine that challenges the norms with home-at-home reports of people in the suburbs. The future is knocking on the next," the jury wrote.  

Funniest job ever 

On behalf of Design Lab S, Klara Hedengren and Malin Dahlberg have worked with an editorial group of children who are regulars at Labbet. The regulars are between 9-13 years old and they are the ones who have been allowed to decide the magazine's content. Thanks to many photographers, designers and writers, the magazine has been destroyed according to the children's ideas. Like many of Design Lab's projects, this is the result of a broad collective creative process. 

It's the most fun job I've ever had. It has given so much to myself and my own business. The kids have so many fun ideas and they've made me challenge my own design process. In a design education, you learn to sketch first and build later, but the children have a completely different approach to the process, often they start building right away, says Klara.

-Over the years, we have collaborated with many Beckmans students in our surveys together with the children. Time and time again they show great qualities in pedagogy, design and creative processes and Klara is really one of them. We hope for continued cooperation with Beckmans," says Samir Alj Fält, Artistic Director at Design Lab S.

About Design Lab S 

Design Lab S is a collective design studio in Skärholmen that wants to work for everyone's right to express experiences, experiences and perspectives in product design of aesthetic imprints in the present. Since 2013, the Lab has engaged professional designers and children between the ages of 8 and 15 in collective creative processes, including people over 80. The children who visit the Lab are invited as equal collaborators, with as much agency in the design process as professional designers.
