Sustainable creativity at Beckmans

The world's population is growing and resources are being shared by more and more people. Therefore, the need for new design solutions becomes all the more urgent, and the sustainability aspect is necessary in every project aimed at finding new solutions for the future.

Designers' ability to influence is central

In the school's design disciplines – product design, fashion and visual communication – the work is constantly directed towards creative solutions, design and ways of communicating. An important task and driving force for the designer is to contribute to a more humane, more inclusive and sustainable world.

The designer's ability to influence is central to the education of tomorrow's creators. Everything from materials and processes to packaging and use is one of the things that a designer has significant influence over. Both innovative prototypes and small changes in large production volumes can result in decisive consequences for sustainability. Therefore, Beckmans College of Design's task is to constantly develop the education so that it is at the forefront.

Sustainability goals integrated into quality assurance systems

Beckmans works project-oriented and a central concept for the business is authenticity: projects that students carry out during the study years are real and in close contact and cooperation with industries and organizations. Pedagogy is based on the studio system and authenticity is the core and great strength of sustainability work. The sustainability goals are integrated into the university's quality assurance system.

Beckmans College of Design also works actively to limit climate impact and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This is done both through clear sustainability criteria in the courses of the education, and in the day-to-day activities of the school premises, where both the school staff and students participate.
