Exhibition with Beckmans x Konstfack x Malmstens

Sofia Hulting Swedish, product design, product design

From February 3–7, 2026, Stockholm's three leading design institutions—Beckmans, Konstfack, and Malmstens—will take over Moderna Dansteatern at Skeppsholmen.

Join us for a three-part exhibition focusing on process, material, and craft – studies in furniture, interior design, and objects.

Rough Cut – Beckmans’ exhibition

Beckmans College of Design presents Rough Cut, an exhibition featuring 13 unique furniture projects by graduating students from BA Product Design. Each project is a Staff in which the students’ individual perspectives on product design materiality take center stage.

By letting product design, materials, and production guide the process, furniture is created that challenges contemporary design and shows how ideas and practice can come together in an experimental way.

A collaboration with established Swedish design companies

The projects have been developed in close collaboration with established Swedish design companies EFG, Klong, Källemo, Nola, Stolab, and Storängen. Acting as mentors throughout the process, the companies and students have engaged in a mutual exchange—where industry partners benefit from fresh perspectives, curiosity, and energy, while students gain access to valuable professional knowledge and experience.

An exhibition highlighting the design process

Rough Cut places the design process itself at the core of the exhibition. Through sketchbook pages, video material, prototypes, and material experiments, visitors are invited into parts of the design journey that are rarely shown. Sketches and models are presented alongside finished prototypes, offering insight into how product design through detours, testing, and reflection.

The exhibition illustrates how ideas are refined over time and serves as a reminder that the path from concept to finished object is seldom linear.

A collaboration with BA Visual Communication

The overall exhibition experience—from the visual concept to the graphic identity—has been developed through a close collaboration with four graduating students from the Visual Communication program. Their work forms an integral part of the exhibition, shaping how the projects are presented and experienced by the audience.
