Thank you Classe!
Natural gathering place on Nybrogatan
When Classe took over Beckman's café in 1993, the school was located at Nybrogatan 8.
-"It was my brother Rickard who ran the café from the start and when he got tired of it, I took over," says Classe.
-There was a lot of activity on Nybrogatan. The café became a natural gathering place as everyone passed by on their way into the school. Almost all the students came for lunch every day and when it was the final exhibition we worked around the clock. Then we moved the kitchen up one floor, out onto the balcony that was there, so they could sit out and eat. I remember one time in particular when we started frying bacon and the coordinator of the fashion show came running in and went crazy because it smelled like bacon. In those days, fashion shows were at school.
The smell of freshly baked bread & snow globe collection
In 2009, Beckmans moved to Brahegatan 10, and with it came the smell of Classes' freshly baked bread that greets you at the entrance in the morning, the 80s porcelain tiger he found in a dumpster one morning on Nybrogatan, and the snow globe collection.
-It started with some students buying a snow globe when they were on a trip and then it just continued. I used to buy lunch when I got a snow globe. Now I have about 200, but they would have been closer to 300 if some students who borrowed a bunch for a film shoot hadn't accidentally dropped them on the floor.
Most important and most fun when students come to eat
Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has put a stop to our activities. Last spring, the school closed and introduced distance learning. Since the school reopened, when the fall semester started, there have been few visitors, both from students and Staff but also from the surrounding offices when many are still studying and working from home.
-"Over the years, the most important and fun thing has been when the students come to eat. And organising the Christmas and summer table for the whole school has been a lot of fun and appreciated. There are many memories and it feels sad to leave, I have enjoyed it and it has been fun. But everything has its time and now it was time to end," says Classe.
Thank you Classe for all the years!
