Swedish Pewter Glass Scholarship 2023
Anna Nyman receives this year's glass scholarship from Svenskt Tenn for her cups Skal. Honorable mentions went to August Bällgren for the vase Eternell and Siri Löven for her vase Bo.
The assignment in collaboration with Svenskt Tenn
During the second year of Product design students explore glass design in collaboration with Svenskt Tenn. In the course, Svenskt Tenn is a potential client. The students' assignment is to create products on the theme "the set table". The course began with a study trip to Småland, where the students visited places such as Skrufs glassworks and The Glass Factory in Boda. Then the students spent a couple of weeks working on research, sketches and creating sketch models before they finished by having their design concepts blown in the glassworks STHLM Glas in Gustavsberg.
Peter Nylander, course coordinator and lecturer at Beckmans, comments that the course is the first in the program where the design students collaborate with a specific company and where they do not manufacture their products themselves, which requires close collaboration with the glass blowers and that they learn to clearly communicate their sketch models.
Jury's motivation
Anna Nyman receives Svensk Tenn's Glass Scholarship 2023
"We are awarding this year's working grant to Anna Nyman to enable her to continue working on her cups inspired by the sea, mussels and seashells. Anna's cups, which can also be bowls, have a very nice connection to the history of Swedish Tenn and a poetry that we want to draw attention to. The bowl/cup can be used in different ways and allows for creative solutions. "We can easily see that these bowls can take a nice place on a set table at Svenskt Tenn to create magic and inspiration depending on the season and occasion."
Honorable mentions
In addition to Anna Nyman, two other talented students have also been recognized with honorable mentions.
August Bällgren
"The first honorable mention this year goes to August Bällgren. In his project, August draws attention to the problem that we in Sweden import extremely large quantities of fresh flowers from different parts of the world, where they are often grown under rather uncontrolled conditions. August has created a vase for fresh flowers that are then given a new life as dried flowers in the inner part of the vase. We think that the problem of imported flowers is extremely important to highlight and that August is on to something good and important in his design."
Siri Lövén
"The second honorable mention goes to Siri Lövén and her Vase Bo. The vase has an exciting new product design, it has a clear idea that it can be suitable for a spiral-bound bouquet. It is a vase that we see that there is room in the market for and it could fit well at Svenskt Tenn. It would be exciting to see more of Bo, both in other forms and on a different scale."
Svenskt Tenn's working scholarship gives the scholarship recipient more time to develop their project in the foundry at Sthlm Glas in Gustavsberg.
