Seats by former Beckmans students Josefin Zachrisson and Mira Bergh Edenborg is one of the nominated design projects for the Dezeen Awards 2019.

The Dezeen Awards reward the best new architecture, interior design and design of the year around the world and this year's competition submitted over 4,500 entries from 87 countries. Seats have been selected in competition with projects from star designers such as Patrica Urquiola, Michael Anastassiades and renowned design studios such as Barber & Osgerby.

Designed in course at Beckmans

The seating furniture was developed in the furniture design course conducted last year at the Formprogrammet in collaboration with some of Sweden's most famous furniture manufacturers. Josefin Zachrisson and Mira Bergh Edenborg collaborated with Johanson Design and Seats was first exhibited in Beckman's stand at the Stockholm Furniture Fair in Feburari this year. In April, it was shown in the Swedish collection exhibition "HEMMA Gone Wild" at Milan Design Week.

Furniture exploring sitting

Seats are a modular piece of furniture where also back and armrests are seats. It is also a piece of furniture with a sculptural value.

"We worked a lot with reversing roles, exploring sitting and breaking norms in our process. We also wanted to question the general expression of furniture that is created for public environments. Seats product design, function and materials are chosen based on a room in motion; an environment where a lot of people are present, which keeps a certain pace and where seats are used for a short time," say Josefin and Mira.
