Current and former Beckmans students nominated in Young Sweden Product design
Innovative shelving system
Malin Berglund and Anna Sjöberg launched Product design a year and a half ago, and since then they have worked on their shelving system Cell - from one piece to a whole system, which has now been nominated.
"Our idea with Cell was to create a flexible storage furniture that can be built as needed and placed both on flat walls but also inside and outside corners. The shelving system is made up of a base shape and depending on how these are placed in relation to each other, you can create several different combinations and storage possibilities, such as boxes and shelves. In this way, it fits both in private and public environments," says Malin.
The shelf is made of aluminum and lacquered with a rubber-like surface that gives it a softer feel and keeps things in place. It also has an associated book support that can be placed both horizontally and diagonally.
Started working together already at Beckmans
Malin and Anna met while they were studying at the Form program at Beckmans. Before Beckman's exhibition at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2016, they started working together and after graduating in June of that year, a time at Snøhetta followed for them. Today Anna works at Wingårdh's architectural office and Malin freelances as a product designer. In addition to the job, they recently started Studio Alter together, a design studio that believes in a design strategy where relevance, function and clarity are always put in relation to the recipient and the end product.
