Filippa Fuxe and Joel Andersson awarded NK Young Talent Award by Beckmans 2024
February 21, 2024
Tomorrow's young designers are celebrated with the NK Young Talent Award by Beckmans, which this year goes to Filippa Fuxe and Joel Andersson for their respective graduation collections from Beckmans.
New for this year is that the prize is awarded in both the women's and men's fashion categories and that NK has initiated a close collaboration with ASFB - Association of Swedish Fashion Brands and Stockholm Fashion Week. The winners are honored with an exhibition in Ljusgården at NK Stockholm. In addition, they get visibility in both NK's shop windows and digital channels.
A natural place for tomorrow's design stars to shine
-NK has always been the destination for quality and finding the latest in fashion. It is therefore natural that NK is also the place where tomorrow's design stars get the opportunity to be seen. NK's collaboration with Beckmans has resulted in many exciting projects over the years, and the NK Young Talent Award is an excellent example of this. This coveted award is an important encouragement for our talented students and gives NK's visitors a unique opportunity to catch the latest in the world of fashion, says Pär Engsheden, fashion designer and head of the fashion program at Beckmans.
About Joel Andersson's graduation collection 'Ambivalent'
Joel Andersson is awarded for his graduation collection 'Ambivalent', which explores the ambivalence towards fashion and its role in his life. 'Ambivalent' is a reflection of his personal journey from the countryside to the world of fashion, combining influences from his past with his current love of fashion.
Joel creates a unique collection that reflects a true representation of himself. Originating from the inner conflict between the need for new fashion and the awareness of the environmental impact of overconsumption, Joel explores the ambivalence with the method of deconstruction. The method is based on already existing garments and minimizes the waste of newly produced textiles. Growing up on a farm with parents who ran a carpentry business, Joel was constantly surrounded by practical workwear, which has influenced his passion for workwear and his current relationship with clothing and fashion creation.
About Filippa Fuze's graduation collection 'Re:incarnation'
The graduation collection 'Re:incarnation', is based on an interpretation of a recycled and biodegradable material's own journey through time and between bodies. The collection emphasizes sculptural forms, femininity and originality, and how the material can portray life history and background.
With 'Re:incarnation' Filippa wants to tell the story of the rebirth of materials and their transformation into new, meaningful garments. The life of the material has been brought to life in the collection with inspiration from the works of spiritual artists such as Agnes Pelton and Emma Kunz. Another important part of the collection is shoes that are 3D sketched and then produced in wood with soles made from recycled car tires. The sculptural silhouettes are inspired by Isamu Noguchi, a Japanese-American modern artist who worked in California in the 20th century.
