Meet Gittan Jönsson – film screening and conversation

Beckmans open lecture

Gittan Jönsson is one of the pioneers of the feminist art world. Now she previews her new film at Beckmans and talks about
social power structures.

Film builds bridge between artists' generations

In her art, she portrays complex social power structures and social relations. Gittan lives in Berlin and in her documentary Parallel Lines – A Women's History Document (2018) she looks for the feminist movement's imprint in the art world.

The film builds a bridge between younger artists in Berlin and older people in Stockholm. They share personal experiences of the patriarchal system and strategies for resistance. Conversations arise that blur boundaries between time and space. The film highlights the struggle for fair conditions in art that have been almost forgotten.

In addition to conversations and interviews, the film consists of archival material, photos, filmed sequences from Swedish Television and from a feminist performance festival in Warsaw.
