The tension between art and advertising – an unexplored middle world
Art and advertising are two relatives who often had a tension-filled relationship between them. Once upon a time, they were both part of the same visual context. Both operate and relate to mass media phenomena and developments, exploiting and developing the possibility of mass communication and personal messages. During periods, there has been a struggle for interpretation between the two. The tension between art and advertising provides an opportunity to enter an unexplored middle world where the uncertainty of what is what can be a driving force for creativity. There are also things about unity. There is freedom of expression as an obvious center, but also concepts such as realism, sublimity, vanity, dreams and economic values.
Exhibition at Konstnärhuset 26-29 September
Now the second-year students at Visuell Kommunikation are showing their work from the course "Konst:Reklam:Konst" in an exhibition at Konstnärshuset 26-29 September. In the course, which has been going on for three weeks, the students have conducted artistic representations based on their own reflections of advertising.
