Art|Advertising|Art

Beckmans artistic design and visual communication

In the annual Beckmans exhibition Art| Advertising| Art examines students in Visual Communication the charged relationship between art and advertising.

An unexplored middle world

Throughout history, the two relatives of art and advertising have shared visual contexts. The relationship has been tense and at times there has been a struggle for interpretation. But what unites them is that both work and relate to mass media phenomena and developments, and that they exploit and develop the possibility of mass communication and personal messages.   In the tension field that arises between the two, we can enter an unexplored middle world where the uncertainty of what is what can become a driving force for creativity. The contradictions and similarities give rise to a discussion about freedom of speech, creativity, commercialism, realism, vanity and dreams.
