Floor design by Beckmansstudent selected for design studio in England

Beckmans application andproduct design

Designs created by design student Annelie Wihlborg in a collaboration course with Forbo Flooring last year, have found their way home to Swedish-British design studio Papper Sax Sten in Sheffield.

"It was like Annelie designed it specifically for me! Curvy, modern with a little 50's feel, perfect color combination and a pinch attitude. This floor makes me happy every time I open the door to my new studio," says Jenny Haynes, Swedish-born designer who has worked in the UK for 20 years and known for her colourful quilts under the name Paper Scissors Stone.

Two pattern worlds that meet and complement each other

Annelie's designs, which Jenny Haynes was drawn to, have taken inspiration from pedestrian crossings and were developed in a collaboration course between the Form program at Beckmans and Forbo Flooring in spring 2021.

"When Jenny saw my pattern, she saw a quilt, but my own starting point for the pattern was something else," she said. It really made me feel amazing. product design Both 2D and 3D. What I create and "send out" is like 50% and the recipient (in this case Jenny Haynes) supplements with her 50%. It may sound silly, but it felt so nice, says Annelie.

"It was also fun that Jenny and I had a collaboration on how the pattern would be in her studio and that I was invited into that part, because it's not a given," she says.

What does it mean for you to have had the chance to develop a real product already during the training?

"I had heard that Beckmans does a lot of collaborations with actors in the industry and that was one of the reasons I applied for the training. But it still feels inconceivable that I got the chance to take a product further already in my first year of training. And that Forbo Flooring wanted to invest in my pattern!
