The graduation collection "Cladding in (intimate) grief" that Vogue Talents draws attention to, is a deeply personal collection that explores grief but also sadness in relation to cultural codes.
Each look in the collection reflects a persona with symbolic garments and attributes. Each look also involves a negotiation between covered and uncovered; how much of the body can be seen taking into account cultural norms and values. What happens when more conservative environments' demands for bodily integrity and dignity meet the fashion world's often hedonistic and sexualized exposure of the body? An important role in the collection is played by abstract interpretations of iris flowers that are a feature of Chinese funerals. What happens to symbolism when the flower finds its way into a new context?
Paris Fashion Week
Next, Fo will travel to Paris to show his collection in beckmans college of design's showroom at l'Institut Suédois during Paris Fashion Week 27-29 September.
