Four students behind the graphic identity of the exam exhibition

Beckmans Swedish, degree2020 and visual communication

Agnes Moström, Reidar Pritzel, Tilda Aspelin and Ville Högström created the identity for this year's graduation exhibition Piece by Piece and stand for all art direction in the project.

Design concept based on different fonts

- The design concept for Piece by Piece is based on seven different fonts that we created together, from quite expressive to more minimalist. The fonts were then used randomly in the exhibition communication to highlight how everything is done piece by piece. By combining the different fonts, we also wanted to reflect the breadth of personalities that together make up what Beckman is," says Reidar.

The task of developing an identity for the graduation exhibition was part of a course in the final year of the Visual Communication programme. The students have to choose between developing an identity and communication for the Fashion Collaboration project, for the exhibition at the Stockholm Furniture Fair or for the graduation exhibition. A common theme for the course was sustainability, which all groups worked with in their concepts. For Agnes, Reidar, Tilda and Ville, the expression that no one can do everything but everyone can do something led to the Piece by Piece concept.

Challenge to create a visual identity that stands out without distracting

- The most fun has been seeing the whole thing fall into place and making the graphic identity work in different contexts. We learned a lot during the process and managing the whole project ourselves, especially as Covid-19 stepped in and disrupted the plans. The biggest challenge was to create a visual identity that doesn't take too much attention away from the students' project but at the same time isn't perceived as boring. 'We wanted it to stand out but not distract, but rather highlight the students' projects,' says Agnes.
