Erik Saade's costume in Mello designed by former Beckmans student
Dat Danh's previous collections have been shown at Paris and Stockholm Fashion Weeks and competed in the Designers' Nest at Copenhagen Fashion Week. The collections are often personal stories that draw on his own background, growing up in a deprived area of Malmö "where it was all about streetwear and what it stood for" according to himself, but also on his parents' flight to Sweden in the 1980s and family ties in East Asia.
1. In your previous collections you have often worked from your background, how was it to work towards a specific person this time?
-I find it much easier to work with a specific person, especially Erik who I had met before. Since day one he has been very clear in his idea and he is a person who is very easy to talk to (maybe because we are both from Skåne and the same age hehe)
2. How did Erik Saade think about the clothes?
- He told me he wanted something in mustard yellow, straight lines, a suit that doesn't feel too dressy. A suit with a brushed feel that still feels fashionable and I understood exactly what he meant, so I started creating right away. He liked my first sketch and then it was just a matter of getting started.
3. You're in the starting blocks for your own clothing brand, tell us!
-Erik's outfit will be a first teaser and is quite close to the aesthetic I want to go for. The label will be a mix of classic menswear and streetwear, but I haven't set a launch date yet.....
