Design Dialogues | Critical Fashion Project
Maria Ben Saad, senior lecturer in fashion theoretic subjects and responsible for the Department of Artistic and Contextual Studies, presents her project Critical Fashion Project, which has been carried out within the framework of artistic research from Beckmans.
November 3, | presentation and conversation
The Critical Fashion Project discusses fashion design as a place for critical reflection, and what it can mean for both theory and practice. Central to the study is the concept of critical fashion practice, which in recent years has spread internationally within academia. Through examples primarily from former Beckmans students, the project aims to show how critical thinking can manifest itself in practice, with a focus on fluid, non-binary gender expression.
The project resulted in a digital anthology, Critical Fashion: Reflections in Theory and Practice, consisting of personal essays, visual commentary and conversations.
On November 3, the project will be presented briefly by Maria Ben Saad, who will then participate in a conversation moderated by Ane Lynge-Jorlén, fashion scientist and head of the talent incubator Designers' Nest in Copenhagen.

About artistic research at Beckmans
In 2017, Beckmans initiated an investment in artistic research that has so far resulted in five different research projects with links to our educational areas product design, fashion and visual communication. Some of the projects have been presented in various formats, including at the National Museum, Sven-Harry Art Museum and Rian Design Museum.
During HT21, we present an open lecture and talk series about the projects.
