Beckmansstudent one of the Championships

Beckmans Swedish, product design

Jessica Westerberg is in her final year at formprogrammet and is currently participating in
SVT's new venture The Championships.

Want to inspire and show the process behind design

"The most fun was the challenge, to create in a completely new situation. Exposed to the TV team, the cameras and the time pressure. I loved it! It gave me a lot of insight into myself and what I'm capable of solving. Therefore, it feels extra fun to participate in a program that shows the craftsmanship and process behind the design. I want it to inspire and increase understanding of just that, emphasize the importance of material and the execution of the hand," says Jessica.

Crafts under time pressure

The program premiered on October 29 and involves seven amateur craftsmen competing for who will be the best craftsman. In each program, under time pressure, they get to create something in a new material: wood, ceramics, paper, leather and forging. The main judge is the designer Samir Alj Fält who in each program assesses together with a guest judge who is a specialist in the very craft practiced in the section. In episode 3, the contestants would create in paper and guest judges then were Beckmansalumn Bea Szenfeld.

Took home the ceramic branch

In each episode, there is a participant who goes out. For Jessica, things have gone well so far, in episode 2 where the material was ceramics she even won that branch. Fingers crossed for the future!
