Beckmans alumni selected in Ung Svensk Product design 2021
Fashion from a gaming perspective gave scholarship from Massive Entertainment
Marie Isacsson, who graduated from Mode 2018, has also received one of this year's scholarships – the Massive Entertainment scholarship, which involves 6 months of paid internship at the studio to explore fashion and skins in game production.
In her graduation collection from Beckmans she explored gaming and its relation to fashion. In the Fantasy Land collection, shown in the Young Swedish Product design exhibition and developed during her MA at the Royal College of Fashion in London, she has continued to explore the interaction between the real and the fictional, including the relationship between players and their avatars in MMORPGs (Massive Multi Online Role-Playing Games).
This is how the jury writes about the project:
Luxurious tailoring meets MMORPG avatars in this work around identity, intangible materiality and the relationship between the analog and the virtual. Skilled craftsmanship in the physical garment triggers interest in the virtual wardrobes of the future.
"Outstanding model performed" – the degree project Viggle
Rasmus Steyner Randén, who graduated from Product design in 2020, has been selected with his degree project from Beckmans - the spring bike Vingla. The project won the Global Design Graduate Award 2020 earlier this fall in the industrial design category.
Here's what the jury says about Winch:
Colorful and playful industrial design that arouses interest in technology and creative thinking. Smart, simple solutions adapted to children's hands give hope for a future where repair and maintenance replace the throwaway culture. Straightforward and obvious work presented through an outstandingly executed model.
Graduation collection from Beckmans inspired by the aesthetics of the ski world
Last but not least, Antonia Pihl's previously acclaimed graduation collection from Beckmans 2018 has been selected in this year's edition of Ung Svensk Product design. It is a collection inspired by the aesthetics of the ski world and where the base of the collection is made of waste material with "patches" inspired by ski boot graphics.
This is how the jury writes about the collection:
A complete and form-proof collection where the fashion design has been adapted to waste materials in a creative fusion of oversized street fashion and couture. It's brave, honest and confident with the fashion designer's initials woven into the name.
About Ung Svensk Product design
Ung Svensk Product design is an annual juried award and traveling exhibition that aims to increase and broaden knowledge of young and innovative Swedish design. The award stimulates cross-border projects, and therefore does not divide the applications into categories. A number of grants are awarded to selected designers who have particularly distinguished themselves. The exhibition tours both in Sweden and abroad.
Ung Svensk Product design 2021 is a co-production between Föreningen Svensk Product design and IKEA Museum, in collaboration with Kulturhuset Stadsteatern and the City of Malmö.
