September 09, 2021
Curated exhibition by designer Pierre Marie
Products by Jonathan Nilsson, Lotta Lampa, Jessica Westerberg, Ronja Reuber, Mika Lindblad and Max Stjerna have been selected for an exhibition curated by designer Pierre Marie where Swedish contemporary design meets his own nature-inspired fabric. During design week, the institute's guest apartments, decorated with Swedish design, will also be opened for screenings. One of these apartments was decorated by alumni from Beckmans 2019.
Beckmans participates in two different events at the Swedish Institute in September
September is the big design and fashion month in Paris, starting with Paris Design Week and ending with Paris Fashion Week. Throughout the month, the Swedish Institute hosts the Swedish Design Movement, which brings together over 30 Swedish design companies and designers from the entire design field, all of whom are united by their desire to contribute to increased sustainability at all levels. Beckman College of Design participates both in the design week and during Paris Fashion Week when our newly graduated fashion designers show their graduation collections from Beckmans.
Starring Beckmansalumni during Paris Design Week
Jonatan Nilsson graduated from Beckmans in 2017 and has since been active in his studio in Stockholm. Manufacturing processes, with a focus on innovation and with an experimental input, are a central part of his design practice. His ambition is to create expressive objects that somehow challenge notions of how things are expected to look and work. In 2019, he was named Young Designer of the Year by Elle Decoration Sweden and exhibited works in several parts of Europe in recent years.
Lotta Lampa is a designer and artist, based in Kalix, Norrbotten and graduated from Beckman College of Design in 2013. Today she is active in an international arena. Lampa's aesthetic references both postmodernism and raggar culture and is balanced with the tranquility and nature of Norrbotten. The objects are sketched quickly and large, preferably directly in the material. The production is then done by hand in close collaboration with her father and brother who work with raggar cars in Kalix. A sustainable craft, where the origin, cooperation and community are important and highly valued.
Jessica Westerberg is fascinated by the sculptural forms and genuine craftsmanship of everyday objects. She works in ceramics, concrete, glass and metal. She graduated from Beckmans 2020
Ronja Reuber is a product and furniture designer with a focus on circular design. She graduated from Beckmans in 2020 and currently runs Schiller Reuber Design Studio based in Stockholm.
Mika Lindblad graduated from Beckmans 2020 and is currently studying a Master at Konstfack. In her design, function, aesthetics and sustainability are central.
Max Stjerna graduated from Beckmans in 2021 and currently works at the furniture design company Massproductions in Stockholm. In his degree project from Beckmans, Sense &. Settle, which has been selected for the exhibition, he explores how the sensuous experience of our living environment can be enhanced through materiality.
