Beckmans in collaboration with the international art book fair Stockholm Art Book Fair
12 April 2019
Analog live production of publication
The collaboration is clearly reflected in the visual design of the fair, which has been designed by three Beckmansalumni, Greta Colloca, Adam Nyström and Tor Westerlund, as well as in the exhibition that students at the Visual Communication programme do on Saturday; "80 years in 80 minutes: Beckmans through a Xerox lens". Students will dig their way through the school's archives and create a publication based on what they find. The production takes place completely without computers and is done with the help of a copier, a risograph, glue and scissors.
- When the chance came to host the Stockholm Art Book Fair at the school, we saw an opportunity to give the Visual Communication program its own platform to showcase what is happening at the forefront of the subject in product design of the best in book design and publishing, while bringing it together with the ideas and perspectives of our students. A book fair may not sound very innovative, but it is precisely in these contexts that the latest and most interesting in graphic design is established, and later often taken up by commercial brands and agencies," says Peter Ström, lecturer in the program.
Famous Swedish and international names in exhibition programs
The fair also includes a solid program that includes names such as Metahaven, Ida Wessel, Martina Hoogland Ivanow, Maja Kölqvist, Anna-Sophie Springer and Etienne Turpin.
"Over the weekend we have a plethora of events, with several book signings, book releases and a lecture series with both Swedish and international guests who will discuss the intersection of concept, content and design," says Edit Fándly, project manager and artistic director of the Stockholm Art Book Fair.
