Beckman College of Design creates the culture minister's dress for the Nobel festivities
December 05, 2019
Important questions have been woven into design and fashion concepts
Since 2011, the Fashion Program at Beckman College of Design has annually created free interpretations of the Nobel Prizes. This year, the project is being carried out in collaboration with Sweden's Minister of Culture. On her initiative, the students of the Fashion Program Year 1 have developed creations that relate to important topics for the intended wearer - Minister of Culture Amanda Lind.
The minister's person and heart issues have been woven into design and fashion concepts in various ways. Issues of knowledge and freedom of expression, liberating the world's oceans from pollution and plastics, the climate threat and forest fires have been divided into themes from the four elements: earth, fire, water and air.
Fashion is political. On Nobel Day, the eyes of the whole world are on Sweden. It would be a waste not to raise issues I think are important at such a time. To also be able to do it with young creators from Beckmans feels incredibly exciting and good. As Minister for Swedish Fashion, I am proud when I see how many talents there are in Sweden," says Amanda Lind.
