New senior lecturer at the Visual Communication programme
Since 2012, Brita, together with Alexandra Falagara, runs the award-winning design studio Bastion, where the focus is on method development and norm-broadening design. The studio has received a lot of attention for the graphic form of the feminist magazine Bang, which they worked with for many years. Bastion's work has also attracted international attention, including by British design writer Rick Poynor in Eye Magazine. The studio works research-oriented and investigates methods for how one can translate sustainability theory into a design practice.
"We as designers, work in an industry that is about visual culture, where at the same time we need to adhere to both synchronous and invisible norms. In my work, I problematize different parts of it, by allowing the form choices to discuss issues. I work with research with value issues within what we perceive visually, to see how to use what is considered low valued, for example, with a different function than what we imagine," says Brita Lindvall Leitmann.
At Beckmans, Brita will teach and supervise the field of visual communication for all grades.
