Design collaboration of the year Beckmans x Designtorget
May 08, 2024
We are now presenting six products designed by second-year students of the design program in collaboration with Designtorget.
The course gives young designers an opportunity to work with production at an early stage.
-"It has been an incredibly educational and exciting course on many levels. We have moved from the classroom to the industry and worked closely with our producer. One lesson is that things take longer than you think, no matter how carefully you plan, things happen along the way that cannot be controlled. But we have worked our way through piece by piece until the launch and had a lot of fun," say Siri Lövén and Joelle Aune, who together developed the LUMI lamp.
LUMI is a modern and sculptural interpretation of the classic lamp with a hidden light source that creates a reflective light image.
-"Initially, we were met with a lot of 'no's' from producers and the pricing was far too high from those who said 'yes'. But we had a strong vision and believed in our product. In the end, we managed to find a perfect match, Alumbra, which helped us through production seamlessly.

This year's course has resulted in a beverage tray, a lamp, a knife stand, a vase, a candle holder and a new way to create a personalized window trellis.
LUMI by Siri Lövén and Joelle Aune

Plant Based Nuggets by Anna Nyman & Matarena Sjöberg
Plant Based Nuggets are used to assemble flower sticks into a window trellis. Together with climbing plants, the trellis can act as a privacy screen. The nuggets make it possible to build many different interesting shapes to support plants.
Street flowers by August Bällgren and Love Persson
Street Flowers is a vase made of recycled paving stones and a flower-shaped aluminum disc. Street Flowers explores the material and symbolic contrasts between the hard paving stone and a soft flower shape.
led by Axel Peters and Ellen Nilsson
led is a modular candle holder created for both tealights and pillar candles. With a playful and creative design, led can be assembled in several different ways where the imagination can rule. By collecting led, you can create unique light arrangements that add a personal touch to your home. The material meeting between the tealight's aluminum cup and led creates a seamless transition where the cup also gets an aesthetic value. led is locally manufactured in Stockholm, made of aluminum and is designed by Ellen Nilsson and Axel Peters.
Collect by Karin Forsberg, Victoria Johansson and Alva Jonasdotter
Samla is a sustainable knife rack made from recycled waste pieces from the furniture industry. With a stylish and playful design, it fits perfectly into any home.
BACKMAN by Sara Lagerin and Emelie Svensson
With a stackable construction, BACKMAN offers practical and aesthetic beverage storage. In a curious way, the classic wine rack has been combined with the functions of a beverage tray, to be experienced as a personal interior detail to fill your favorite drinks with.
