Beckmans BA Product Design student Malte Lundberg has been pre-selected for the Louis Vuitton Accessories Design Graduates Initiative, a competition dedicated to identifying the next generation of accessory designers.

A condom accessory

His entry, a condom accessory titled Just in Case, is designed for a generation that often hesitates to go out, date, and connect.

“In a time when social life often remains digital and encounters feel increasingly uncertain, the object represents readiness, whether interpreted playfully or as a personal talisman, it reflects a simple decision to stay open to possibility”, says Malte Lundberg.

Just in Case takes the form of a small, discreet leather case for intimate essentials. It creates a soft and protective environment for condoms that are otherwise often carried loosely in pockets, wallets or bags where friction and pressure can damage them over time. The choice of material draws inspiration from the tactile qualities of condom packaging. The contrast between smooth, polished surfaces and subtle texture. Translated into leather, this results in a combination of refined, glossy leather paired with a more textured element, creating both visual and sensory contrast.

“I have a background in furniture design and saw the Louis Vuitton Graduates Initiative competition as a fun challenge to create an accessory,” Lundberg explains. “My product is not so much about the practical use—although it is a playful way to encourage responsibility—but rather about highlighting modern dating culture.”

About the competition

The Louis Vuitton Accessories Design Graduate Initiative focuses on leather goods and accessories and aims to discover emerging accessory designers. The competition is open to final-year BA and MA students from leading European and American fashion, design, and art schools. This year, 242 projects were submitted.

About Malte Lundberg

Malte Lundberg grew up in Gotland, Sweden. Before attending the BA Product Design programme at Beckmans College of Design in Stockholm, he studied a preparatory design course at Beckmans and trained in fine carpentry on Gotland.

Lundberg is currently in his final year of the BA Product Design programme and plans to share a studio with friends after graduating in June.
