graduate collection

—

This collection is a study of the relationship between a viewer and the person viewed. Taking this as my starting point I want to discuss woman as a construction and how feminine attributes are associated with ideas about femininity. I try to understand the interaction between body, object, and how we see and are seen.

One important reference point is Salvador Dalí’s Dream of Venus from 1939 in which visitors passed between a pair of sculpted women’s legs into Dalí’s world with women who expressed his dream of Venus. The women were dressed in underwear which is a small piece of cloth, but with a large capacity for influencing the way in which a body is regarded.

The aim of the collection is to visualize something raw in a study of material and form related to the human body. By making use of my images from Dalí’s work and the work of others, I want to enter a discussion about who owns an expression and what role a sender has in how we perceive a work or a form of expression.
