Are you interested in advertising or graphic design? Visual communication at Beckmans Kvällsskola gives you a good foundation to stand on.
A preparatory training in advertising and graphic design
Our 1-year preparatory program with a focus on visual communication gives you the basics in subjects such as graphic design, typography, illustration and motion product design. It prepares you to apply for higher design education, but is also suitable for those who want to take a step in their career, develop their skills or change the focus of their current work. Classes take place two evenings a week for one academic year.
"Evening school is a great place to meet people, to create at a fast pace, and try many different things at the same time. You discover new networks, contacts and get to collaborate with other classmates."
Oscar Hagberg, Design Scholarship 2020 at Beckmans Kvällsskola specialising in visual communication

Visual communication - a collective name for multiple topics
The Visual Communication major includes the subjects of illustration, advertising, photography, typography, graphic design, motion product design, interactive media and packaging design. The course also provides some artistic foundation through courses in kroki. The fall semester starts with an orientation in the different subjects.
You build your portfolio
During the spring semester, you will also build your portfolio, which is the act that is almost exclusively used as a merit document in the communication and design industry. The focus is then on work samples for higher education and you get individual feedback on how you can develop your portfolio.
"At the evening school we went through different techniques which then helped me in the application process for the day school. What I developed most was my creative process. When I do assignments and process my ideas, I work differently now."
Rebecca Lagerstedt, now in her first year of Visual Communication 180 credits.
Packaging Design and Mixed Reality from VT2021
Visual communication is a subject that is constantly evolving with new technologies. Therefore, since spring 2021, we also teach the topics packaging design and Mixed Reality. It is not least the increasing e-commerce that places new demands on the design of packaging. At four lessons, we therefore explore concept development, graphic design and construction together with teachers Fredrik Ek and Pim Bruun.
In the mixed reality area, we explore the interfaces and communication surfaces of the future that will increasingly be integrated into our everyday reality. During four lessons, we orient ourselves in design, technology and methods for AR (augmented reality) together with Jonas Johansson, senior lecturer at the visual communication program 180 credits at Beckmans.
Teaching two nights a week at The Evening School
The teaching consists of lectures, workshops and briefings with discussions two evenings a week. Study visits may occur depending on current events and exhibitions. The tasks/projects require you to work independently to complete these in addition to the scheduled time.
