GRO
Gro explores the relationship between darkness and light, where discomfort and attraction converge. Through material, form, and silhouette as well as rhythm, direction, and movement, I investigate how opposing forces can coexist and generate tension.
The project originates from a personal reflection on my previous design practice in which darkness has been a recurring element. It has functioned as a driving force, something I transform into attraction. In this project I wanted to pause and to reflect on what occurs within that transformation.
The work draws on the idea of decay as a natural, organic process, one that breaks down, reshapes, and allows new growth to emerge from what already exists. It is a slow transformation, often associated with the unwanted or the unsettling. In contrast, the project engages with the notion of the dressed-up, a traditional, controlled, and structured way of dressing. By allowing these worlds to intersect and interact, both discomfort and attraction are made visible. In their meeting, a tension emerges, a friction, where something new is allowed to grow.
