Edit

Pär Engsheden is the Program Director of the Fashion Program at Beckman College of Design and an Associate Professor of Fashion Design. He attended Beckman's fashion program from 1988-1991 and was already known at the school for his tailoring skills, extreme accuracy and penchant for classic elegance. Since 1994, he has worked as a guest teacher and tutor at the school. In addition to his long involvement at Beckmans, he works mainly with couture and is a Royal Court Supplier. Over the years, he has received a number of honors, including being elected to the Stockholm Tailors' Guild, a membership that testifies to great professional skill, and was an honorary laureate at the Ellegalan 2011. In 2013, he was one of the first fashion designers ever to be awarded the Royal Medal Illis Quorum by the Minister of Culture. In 2020, the exhibition Pär Engshedens och Sara Danius Nobelklänningar (Pär Engshedens and Sara Danius' Nobel Dresses) will be on display at the Nationalmuseum, where the dresses he created for the Swedish Academy's permanent secretary Sara Danius between 2015-2018 will be on display. The exhibition is part of his research project at Beckmans, where he has used the four dresses as a starting point to examine what couture stands for in a contemporary context.
