Will your ideas shape the world around us?
Product design is about emotion, function and experience. On the Product Design programme, you transform abstract ideas into physical objects that feel good in the hand and stand the test of time. You explore everything from traditional craft to contemporary manufacturing techniques, building a strong foundation for your future career.

Your studies combine hands-on work in our workshops with critical reflection and close collaboration. Through exhibitions and live projects with external partners, you will engage directly in the international design conversation.

This is Product Design

As a product designer, you can transform everyday life, contribute to long-term sustainability and challenge conventional solutions. By bringing together materials, function and expression, you create products and objects that make a real difference in people’s lives.

After graduation
After graduating, you might set up your own design studio, join a furniture or interior design company, or work as part of a brand’s in-house creative team. You could also work as a product designer at a specialist design agency or as a consultant in concept and material development. Some of our graduates go on to pursue master’s degrees abroad.

Programme content and structure

Year 1 – Foundations
During your first year, you will gain an understanding of product design as your main subject, as well as the design processes involved. You will create prototypes in our wood and metal workshop and use digital tools in our 3D lab. You will develop and strengthen your ability to work sustainably, practically, artistically and methodically, with a process-led approach.

Year 2 – Broadening and deepening
You now work on a more project-based basis, with a stronger emphasis on professional practice: developing your ability to conceptualise and evaluate ideas, and to create compelling visual work in response to a brief. You take greater responsibility for your own learning and development, sometimes through collaborative projects with external companies.

Year 3 – Design projects at an advanced creative and professional level
The third year gives you more time to deepen your practice. At this stage, you will be able to define, develop and present design projects to a high creative and professional standard—first through a collaborative project grounded in a real-world context, and then in your own degree project.

Studio and Workshop

A well-equipped prototyping workshop with woodworking and metalworking facilities, a large laser cutter, a 3D lab, screen-printing facilities, a photography studio and a print workshop are just some of the workshops and studios available at Beckmans.

Every student has their own workspace. Depending on your programme, you will have access to a range of workshops. There are also plenty of project rooms available to book for collaborations with fellow students or meetings with external partners. Lecture rooms, computer labs, the photography studio and auditorium are shared facilities, as is the library, which serves as a learning support centre and offers guidance on finding information. The library also runs a study workshop where you can book support with your writing. There are two well-equipped student kitchens, as well as a quiet room for rest. And, not least, a creative and welcoming atmosphere.

Faculty – Product design

All our tutors are active practitioners with their own work beyond the college, bringing together a wide range of specialist expertise across the field of design. We also invite many inspiring guest lecturers, who contribute additional knowledge and professional perspectives. As a student, this gives you valuable connections for the future.
