The ‘Lisa för själen’ vase brings contemporary poetry to the table

For the 13th consecutive year, Product Design students at Beckmans College of Design have collaborated with Svenskt Tenn as part of the annual glass course. This year’s Svenskt Tenn Scholarship is awarded to Liv Vusir Jansson for her vase “Lisa for the Soul”. Loka Lindaregård and Minoo Höglund also receive honourable mentions for their outstanding glass objects.

– This year, the top students were so evenly matched that we almost decided to share the scholarship between them. All three of us were both fascinated and impressed by the personal and professional presentations, as well as the beautifully crafted prototypes, said Thommy Bindefeld, Creative Advisor at Svenskt Tenn.

This year’s scholarship recipient

Lisa För Själen is a small yet weighty vase inspired by Estrid Ericson’s philosophy of bringing poetry into everyday life—using nature to evoke a sense of atmosphere at the table and throughout the home.

The jury’s statement:
“Estrid Ericson created her Acorn Vase in the 1930s, and now we see a new, contemporary companion taking its place on Svenskt Tenn’s table settings. The ‘Lisa för själen’ vase feels both natural and assured, with a simplicity and weight that we appreciate. The technique of blowing compressed air into the molten glass makes each vase unique, revealing the presence of the maker’s hand.”

Glass course in collaboration with Svenskt Tenn

In the annual course “The Brief”, second-year students in the Product Design programme at Beckmans College of Design are invited to explore glass in response to a brief from Svenskt Tenn. Their task is to create a product or product series on the theme “The Set Table”. This year’s scholarship and honourable mentions were presented by Thommy Bindefeld, Creative Advisor at Svenskt Tenn; Ebba von Blixen, Product Manager at Svenskt Tenn; and glass artist Ann Wåhlström.

This year’s honourable mentions

Svenskt Tenn also awarded two honourable mentions to students whose objects demonstrated an exceptionally high standard:

  • Loka Lindaregård – The Klöver glass. Distinguished by its elegance, delicacy and assured form, inspired by the student’s own story.“There is an elegance and natural confidence to the Klöver glass that we feel aligns well with the brief and could earn it a place at Svenskt Tenn.”
  • Minoo Höglund – Bowl series Sisine. Three irregularly shaped bowls, brought to life by reflections of sunlight.“Minoo Höglund demonstrates a confident command of form, creating a series of bowls that are all but ready to take their place on a table set by Svenskt Tenn.”

About the collaboration:
Beckmans College of Design and Svenskt Tenn have collaborated since 2013. The course gives Product Design students a deeper understanding of the techniques and vocabulary of glassmaking, as well as valuable experience of working with an external client.
