Welcome to a three-part exhibition exploring process, materials and craft through studies in furniture, interiors and objects.

From 3 to 7 February 2026, Stockholm’s three leading design institutions—Beckmans, Konstfack and Malmstens—will take over Moderna Dansteatern on Skeppsholmen.

Rough Cut – a Beckmans exhibition

Beckmans College of Design presents Rough Cut, an exhibition featuring 13 unique furniture projects by graduating students from the BA programme in Product Design. Each project is a personal exploration centred on the students’ individual perspectives on form and materiality.

“By allowing form, materials and production to guide the process, the resulting furniture challenges contemporary design and shows how ideas and practice can come together through experimentation.”

A collaboration with established Swedish design companies

The projects were developed in close collaboration with the established Swedish design companies EFG, Klong, Källemo, Nola, Stolab and Storängen. With the companies acting as mentors throughout the process, the exchange has been mutually rewarding: the industry partners gain fresh perspectives, curiosity and energy, while the students benefit from valuable professional experience and expertise.

An exhibition that brings the design process to the fore

Rough Cut places the design process at the heart of the exhibition. Through sketchbooks, video footage, prototypes and material experiments, visitors are invited into parts of the design journey that are rarely seen. Sketches and models are presented alongside finished prototypes, offering insight into how form evolves through detours, testing and reflection.

The exhibition shows how ideas evolve over time, reminding us that the journey from concept to finished object is rarely linear.

A collaboration with the BA programme in Visual Communication

The overall exhibition experience—from the visual concept to the graphic identity—was developed in close collaboration with four graduating students from the Visual Communication programme. Their work is an integral part of the exhibition, shaping how visitors encounter and experience the projects.
