Fashion Show, 22 January

Just in time for fashion show season, we are delighted to present a collaboration between our 13 bachelor’s students and six brands at the forefront of contemporary design and sustainability, creating quality that lasts beyond the season: Arket, Asket, & Other Stories, Rave Review, Remake and Weekday.

The students have interpreted the brands through their own aesthetic perspectives, creating new synergies.

When: Wednesday 22 January at 4:00 pm (show 1) and 5:30 pm (show 2)
Where: A house ARK, Uggleviksgatan 2 A
The fashion show is for press and industry professionals.

Design brief: “Unfolding Futurity”

The aim is to respond to the brand and its audience through both a given design brief and your own creative approach. The process calls for courage in exploring your creativity in relation to external requirements. This year’s design brief is UNFOLDING FUTURITY, which can be interpreted in both abstract and concrete terms.

“We need to read the signs of the times to create for an unknown future. The collection should express a distinct sense of style, bringing form and content together to tell a visual story. ”

— Elisabet Yanagisawa, lecturer

Participating students

Amanda Warnbo, Elin Olsson, Gustav Flovin, Hanna Eriksson, Johannes Jansson, Julia Wahlberg, Karolin Lysén, Kristin Svensson, Lina Fujikawa, Linn Hermander, Olivia Henriksson, Sofus van Mierlo, Vanja Weichselbaumer.

About the course

Fashion Collaboration is a course taught during the autumn semester of the final year. The professionally oriented process comprises several stages. Students develop a new design concept based on an analysis of the brand and the design brief, with sustainability perspectives and trend analysis playing a central role. The process includes research and explorations of form, and students develop all prototypes themselves.

Several of the partner companies have a strong focus on sustainability: Remake, Rave Review and Asket. For Asket, 60 per cent of the collection will consist of garments reworked from the brand’s own range.

Another group of companies with lifestyle brands includes Arket, & Other Stories and Weekday. The student develops a complete collection, from which 3–5 looks are selected and produced at full scale.

About the collaboration

The collaborative element includes individual coaching from the assigned company and visiting lecturers. This feedback from practising professionals is a highly valued part of the course. In the final phase of the project—communication and presentation—students learn the fundamentals of concept development, branding and visual communication. This year’s class has chosen to present its work at A house ARK, with a Brutalist design concept that brings together the building’s architecture (1967–69, by architects Gunnar Henriksson and John Olsson) and a cohesive aesthetic spanning set design, styling, invitation design, lookbook, music and film.

The result is 13 collections, each with a distinct concept, presented in two fashion shows at A house ARK on 22 January. Our heartfelt thanks go to the brands and industry professionals who are helping Beckmans’ emerging fashion designers take their place on the stage. We would also like to thank the guest lecturers and partners who contribute to our programmes and support our students’ careers.
