New Way Home - graduate students and alumni at Milan Design Week
April 17, 2018
This is the first time the designers have exhibited in Milan and it is the fourth year in a row that Beckman College of Design is present during the design week there.
Home - Stories of Home Exhibition
This year Beckmans is participating in the Swedish collaboration, Hemma - Stories of Home, curated by Stockholm-based Joyn Studio. The exhibition has been made possible by Visit Sweden, which is leading the government's Swedish Design Moves initiative in collaboration with the Swedish product design, the Association of Swedish Fashion Brands, the Swedish Architects Association and the Swedish Wood and Furniture Federation.
"For Beckmans, collaborations with the outside world are a central part of pedagogy. Being present during the International Design Week in Milan means great opportunities to create new professional relationships and gain a deeper understanding of your own role as a designer," says Annika Berner, Head of External Relations at Beckmans and responsible for the project.
Ideas about furniture and objects for the home
Anchored in the present, the new designers write their own stories day by day about what a home can be: experimentation, creative energy, storytelling and collaboration are at the heart of development and challenging norms to create a better everyday life. By formulating and designing their own projects, working in collaboration with other students and some of Sweden's co-famous producers, they develop new ideas about what furniture and objects for a home can be.
