Fashion course at Tensta konsthall during Easter break
April 06, 2021
"We hope that it will be a fun week and that we can give an insight into what it is like to work with fashion and design," says Eli Solberg and Felicia Åström.
There will be workshops in different techniques, including what is called remake design when second-hand garments are used to create new ones.
"The week will be mainly about capturing the interest of young people. We want to inspire and tell them how they move forward and what paths there are.
See a feature from the course in SVT on April 7.
Different entrances to fashion design
Felicia and Eli themselves have completely different approaches to why they started with fashion design. For Felicia, she brought it with her from home when her mother always sewed, but she herself was first mostly into drawing and drawing. In high school, she realized that she wanted to work in fashion design. The way to Beckmans was through two different folk high schools where she learned the basics of fashion and design but also about herself and her own expression.
For Eli, it was not obvious that it would be fashion that was the future, but something in art or something else creative. So Eli started with graphic design and went to London to study to be a fashion illustrator.
"When I was there, I realized that I wanted to make a collection. But I couldn't sew, I hadn't sewn in my whole life! So I changed tracks and learned to sew on a preparatory training in sewing at Tillskärarakademin, says Eli who then got into Beckmans.
Young people from Järva take precedence
Due to the corona restrictions, only ten young people can participate in the fashion course at Tensta konsthall. But it is not first come, first served, but young people from Järva take precedence.
It's going to be fun to meet the kids. I remember what it was like at that age, everything was exciting and there was a lot of energy. "We look forward to seeing everyone," Eli said.
