The voice of my inner being
Jon Allensten
My interior has long been a tug-of-war between reason and heart. Reason has usually won. Until the day I dared to open up to what has always been there, what is the voice of my inner being.
All my adult life I have been torn between two worlds. The conventional, expected. It's hidden hidden deep within me. This collection depicts that tug-of-war. It shows a longing for a creative life, a longing no one knew about. It sums up my inner journey to this day.
In my work with the collection, I have mainly based on the history of the costume and the dress codes of the business world. I have interviewed people I studied with when I studied economics in Lund, people who continued on the path in life that we started together and who today are successful in the business world. Their thoughts and reflections on dress codes in the business world made me see the suit as a protective shell. I've wanted to explore what happens when the shell breaks and wild, inner dreams burst forth and destroy laid-out career plans.
In addition to materials included in the classic businessman's attire, ruffles and floral print are carrying design elements, details that I have returned to during my three years at Beckmans.
