Thesis launched by French design company

Beckmans alumni and graduates2017, Swedish, product design

Designer Anne Harvala, who graduated from the form program in 2017, has had her degree project Unify from Beckmans launched by French design company Petite Friture.

Stand series with strong character

-The challenge with the exam project Unify was to produce a stand series with a strong character without standing out too much. It was important to get the product commercial both in terms of form and design. With the Unify collection, I wanted to find an idiom that also gave space for other forms, I wanted it to work with different kinds of table tops and heights, such as side tables, dining tables, bar tables and conference tables in a public as well as private environment," says Anne.

-Petite Friture wanted to expand the Unify collection with a bench and a table that required two more dimensions of the leg rack design, and these are now among the previous ones on the market.

The elaborate degree project was awarded with Beckman's form scholarship in 2017.

Took the project further at Stockholm Furniture Fair

It was at the Stockholm Furniture Fair that Anne came into contact with the company when, the year after graduation, she showed Unify in her own stand in Greenhouse where young and unestablished designers exhibit.

"It was a rewarding fair that gave me a new valuable network of contacts. Several swedish and international producers came forward and talked and were seriously interested in Unify. One of them was Amélie Du Passage, founder and owner of Petite Friture, anne says.

Petite Friture celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and has made itself known for furniture with elements of elegance, minimalism, humor and playfulness. Unify has been available in the company's range since mid-October.
